The E-Motion, a fully electric sports car, is MG’s vision of the future and as such, MG aims to push innovation and technology towards the next generation of vehicles, while still holding true to the principles of current vehicles.

At the heart of the E-Motion lies an electric motor that MG Motor claims is capable of up to 500 kilometers of driving range from a single charge, and powerful enough to whisk the coupe from 0-60 km/h in under four seconds.

The company also describes black technology only seen in science fiction films" though stops short of outlining what that might involve. At its core the MG E-Motion rides atop an all-new modular electric vehicle architecture developed by its parent company SAIC.

The first images of the MG E-Motion reveal dramatic "butterfly doors" that stretch back into the cabin, with a long-bonnet and cab-rearward stance inspired by European GT cars. Up front the concept wears a diamond-pattern grille similar to that used on Mercedes-Benz models and LED headlights with a light signature reminiscent of the Mazda 6.

The broad-shouldered rear-end is more unique with squat tail lights that reach up into the hip-line that runs over the rear quarter panels.

In a move away from tradition the E-Motion also features a rounded MG badge at either end, that updates the usually octagonal logo that has adorned its cars since the brand was founded over 90 years ago.

On the outside, the E-Motion harks back to MG’s sporting heritage with a sleek coupe profile, which provides a very modern take on the BGT coupe from MG’s glorious past. It is hard to argue that the E-Motion is anything other than a striking car, the headlights are modeled on the London Eye, the vertical rear light clusters are reminiscent of decades worth of MG design.

When examining the design of the MG E-Motion there are hints of other famous brands that can be recognized such as the silhouette of the Jaguar F-Type or the Aston Martin DB11, which share the same British Heritage and history as MG.

More design flair is to be found on the roof, where an elongated glass roof adds even more sharpness to the already striking looks of the E-Motion, keeping the interior light and airy. With these looks alone the MG E-Motion certainly evokes emotions, of lust, awe and longing.

The E-Motion features a top-of-the-range infotainment. It is touted to have connectivity and be fully internet compatible. This should enable the system be remain up to date and attractive for the targeted market of younger buyers.

Matthew Cheyne, Head of Marketing and Sales for MG UK stated that he would expect the MG E-Motion to begin production in approximately 2020 with a price tag of around £30,000.

In the current EV market, the MG E-Motion will have to compete with the likes of Electric car giant, Tesla who has been ruling the EV world with their Model S.
